City of Geneseo Refuse Information, Rules and Exemptions

  • Monthly Rate $12.95 billed on the City Utility bill for all residential properties in the City of Geneseo.
    • Includes Refuse weekly on Thursdays or Fridays.
    • Includes Recycling Collection Bi-Weekly on your refuse day.
      • The Toter lid will have information on what can be recycled.
    • Includes Yard Waste and Leaf Collection from March 16th through December 15th.
    • All Yard Waste will be collected on Monday's and Tuesday's.  If your refuse day is Thursday, your Yard Waste pick up will be on Monday and if your refuse day is Friday, your Yard Waste pick up will be on Tuesday.  Exception:  Country Manor & Prairie View Customers have Monday Yard Waste pick up.                                        The rules are as follows:
      • Placed in Kraft bags and weighing less than 50 pounds.
      • Sticks must be bundled or in a bag.  
      • Customer Purchased Toters can be used as well for grass clipping or any yard waste.  Grass Clipping may also be placed in Kraft Bags.
    • All material must be set out by 7:00AM on any collection day.
    • Refuse and Recycling Toters are property of the Contractor unless extra toters have been purchased by the resident.
  • Residents are entitled to have 1 large item picked up per month.  Small material or furniture as long as one person can load into the collection vehicle.  Call  309-944-4243 to schedule a pick up.
  • Hours of Collection - Starting at 7:00AM - going no later than 6:00PM.
  • Holidays - In the event the Holiday falls on a weekday, services will be delayed one day.
  • Yard Waste Toters may be purchased for $55.00 (plus $10.00 delivery fee) by calling Allied at 800-233-9634.
  • Toter Sizes : 65 Gallon Dimensions - 42” High, 24” Wide, 28” Deep            95 Gallon Dimensions - 44” High, 28” Wide, 32” Deep

Exemption or Reduction Rules and Guidelines.

  • Residents that own a Vacant property may apply for reduced rate exemption.  The resident will need to file the application at the Geneseo City Hall and be approved by the Public Works Director.
    • The regular $12.95 rate will be reduced to $7.00 until the residence is occupied.
    • The property must be vacant for a minimum of 30 days before it qualifies.
    • Reduced rates are subject to any annual contract rate increases.
  • Residents that leave their residence for a winter or summer home may file an exemption application at the Geneseo City Hall.
    • The regular $12.95 rate will be reduced to $7.00 during the application period.  3 month maximum per calendar year.
    • Notify the City in advance of the dates that you will be gone and upon return notify the City you are home.
    • No exemption shall be granted unless a written application based upon this form is submitted to and approved by the City of Geneseo, Illinois.
    • Reduced rates are subject to any annual contract rate increases.
  • All Commercial properties that have residents living above them are exempt form the Contract.  All properties that have no water or electrical meter are exempt from monthly charges.
  • A Hardship Reduction Application is available at the Geneseo City Hall.  The list of rules and qualifications are posted below on the application.

All residential properties will be billed $12.95 beginning the first Utility billing cycle in December of 2012.  The payment will go against the service starting in January of 2013.
