Hydrant Flushing will be the week of September 30th.
Geneseo Water Division personnel will begin hydrant-flushing the morning of Monday, September 30th. Hydrant flushing occurs between 4 am and 4 pm. Hydrant-flushing will end October 4th. Water Division personnel will operate and verify proper operation of all the fire hydrants in the system. Personnel will start flushing on the north side of town and working their way from east to west as they move in a southward direction, street by street. During this time, customers may notice episodes of decreased water pressure or discoloration of their water. Water discoloration results from temporary disturbances of the normal water flow within our piping network. These short-term changes in flow can stir up naturally occurring minerals and sediment that settles within the water mains. The objective of the water main/hydrant flushing program is to remove these accumulated sediments from our pipes by flushing the water out of the fire hydrants. Most of time, this will clear up by running water on the cold side for a few minutes. We do not anticipate any problems but recommend that you refrain from doing white laundry while flushing is being done. If you have any questions, please call 309-944-6419 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Thank you,
Public Works Water Division
