McGruff Crime DogThe Illinois Crime Prevention Association was established in 1973 and was known as the Illinois Crime Prevention Officer’s Association until 1986 when the name was changed to encourage more participation the business community. The I.C.P.A. provides crime prevention practitioners with a forum where they can share ideas and receive training in the area of crime prevention.

The Illinois Crime Prevention Association is made up of dedicated Crime Prevention Officers and Practitioners located throughout the State of Illinois. Their main purpose is to contribute to the reduction and control of criminal victimization in the State of Illinois by providing crime prevention education and supporting crime prevention programs and activities. They focus their attention on local, regional, and state issues relating to crime prevention and in turn inform elected officials, legislative bodies and criminal justice personnel of current crime prevention trends and techniques necessary for reducing crime.

Some of the programs sponsored by the Geneseo Police Department include Neighborhood Watch; Straight I.D. Program; Elder Abuse; and Identify Theft.
